Talent abound in 2012 Allegheny Amateur field
BLACKSBURG, VA - The Allegheny Amateur is deep with talent in 2012. The two most recent champions, Ryan Mondy of Blacksburg, and Keith Decker of Martinsville, are both back to claim their second crown. The field's depth will make for an interesting weekend. The entries include Buck Brittain of Tazewell, 2012 Roanoke Valley Hall of Fame champion, Korey Watts of Buchanan, Justin Young of Roanoke, and former pro Matt Chandler of Rocky Mount. Golfers from both the Virginia Tech and the Radford men's golf teams are also competing in this year's field.
In the senior division, 2011 champion Bill Nunnenkamp will look to defend his title against Christiansburg's Roger Young, Salem's Jack Allara, and Daleville's Larry Smith.
Al Looney is back in the super senior division after winning last year's event by one stroke. He'll contend with Roanoke's Bill Proffitt and Marvin Taylor, and 2011 first round leader, Butch White of Radford.
108 golfers make up this year's field, including 79 in the open division, 17 in the senior division, and 12 in the super senior division.
Tee times will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, and at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 16.
